Ageing or Disability?

AgeingThis rewarding specialisation gives you the opportunity to work in private homes, residential facilities, or respite centres. As a dedicated support worker, you will provide vital personal, physical, and emotional care tailored to individual needs. You will make a daily difference by assisting clients with essential tasks like showering, dressing, shopping, and social outings.

Disability - Dedicated support workers empower individuals with disabilities to build self-reliance and live confidently within their homes and communities. This vital career focuses on promoting independence by helping clients develop everyday skills and achieve their personal goals. Key responsibilities include assisting with daily tasks while actively combating isolation and boredom through meaningful community engagement.

Course Highlights

As part of this course, you will engage in:

  • 17 weeks of classroom training combining theory and hands-on practical activities.

  • 2 days per week of structured learning, plus additional study workshops.

  • 6 weeks of organised local work placement (120 hours) to gain real experience.

  • Training with up-to-date equipment, including hoists, beds, and wheelchairs.

  • Access to all required learning resources, supplied by ATC Work Smart.

The course fees are free in 2026.

Proof of eligibility must be provided at the time of enrolment.

You are eligible for a subsidised training place if you have left school, your primary place of residence is in Western Australia and you are: 

  • an Australian citizen or

  • a permanent visa holder or

  • holders of a sub-class 300, 309, 444, 445, 461, 785, 790, or 820 visa;

  • secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 188, 457, 482, 489, 491 or 494 visa;

  • holders of a Bridging Visa E (subclasses 050 and 051) where the visa holder has made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790;

  • Ukraine citizens who are holders of a visa sub-class 449 or 786;

  • Afghan citizens who are holders of a visa sub-class 449; and

  • holders of a bridging visa who are eligible to work, and who have made a valid application for a visa of subclass 866

This is in accordance with the Department of Training and Workforce Development Vet fees and charges policy 2026.
